McKay Coppins

McKay Coppins is a staff writer at The Atlantic where he covers national politics, religion, and the media. He is the author of The Wilderness, a book about the battle over the future of the Republican Party, and a forthcoming biography of Senator Mitt Romney. In 2019, he won the Aldo Beckman Award from the White House Correspondents Association for his coverage of the Trump presidency; in 2021, he received the Wilbur Award for religion journalism. He a visiting fellow at the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics in 2018. He lives near Washington, DC, with his wife and children.
